About Our Business
About Us
Low and moderate-income families continue to experience deteriorating
quality of life conditions that are further enhanced by the current housing
slump in our economy. They are plagued by inadequate and unaffordable
housing, degenerate neighborhoods and limited access to services and
facilities. Other social issues include inadequate household incomes to
meet basic needs, inability to accumulate financial savings, more families
experiencing excessive debt, and the need to resolve credit issues and/or
contend with fraud. Also, mortgage defaults and foreclosures are
increasing at an alarming rate and chronic homelessness in the area is
continuing to grow.

SDHLC&EC is a HUD approved, certified non-profit agency. The
organization was established 30 years ago in response to an outcry from
San Diego’s low and moderate-income leaders to end redlining and
discrimination. It was designed by the lending community and local leaders
to specialize in improving access to mortgage deficient neighborhoods.
Since its inception in 1977, SDHLC&EC has helped thousands of families
gain first-time home ownership through our housing counseling services.

However, our organization is now at a pinnacle point in its growth and
development. Our leadership understands the importance and significance
of moving in a future direction that enhances what we have done so expertly
in the past in housing.  We expect to add new and critical services that
further economic empowerment and wealth building in the low and
moderate-income community. Our goal is to embark in a more
comprehensive direction that embraces educational, economic and
business development opportunities for our customers.

Therefore, we are pleased to introduce our career planning and
employment placement services. We are also excited about our small
business development training and coaching program and our formal
partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. These new
services along with future customer programs introduced at a later time will
seek to cross the fine line that separates the poor from those who are not in
society's great economic divide. We remain firmly committed to continuing
to enhance the dream of home ownership for those of limited means.
However, we are equally committed to promoting economic wealth building
for our customers through future endeavors and opportunities we pursue.
